Colby Astro Blog – Day 13: SSP Saturday Shenanigans

Salutations readuzz,

It’s officially the end of week 2 at SSP! I started my day off by sleeping through SIX separate alarms and eventually waking up 30 minutes before lectures (thank you Pauline for waking me up!).

Classes today were confusing, though short, as we only have morning lectures on Saturdays. I didn’t understand much of the math work, but in true SSP collaborative spirit I wasn’t the only one who didn’t.

After morning lectures, we went to the Foss dining hall to grab some coffee and “lock in”, but then got distracted… I did, however, learn how to play Twinkle Twinkle LIttle Star on the piano! Here’s a clip of me, Angela, and Elizabeth playing. Try to guess which is mine (VERY hard).

I then dropped my phone and spent the next 3 hours “tweaking”, as I was unable to access my cellular data. I managed to capture the moment I dropped it on camera while recording Elizabeth playing Cornfield Chase.

I eventually dropped it again and it started working somehow (yay).

After lots of procrastination we returned to West Quad for a short “group doomscroll session”, effectively turning rotting our brains into a social activity.

In the evening we got to work on an art “assignment” to learn about the different orbital elements we’ll be needing later on in our research process. It was really fun and didn’t really feel like work though, it was a nice breath of fresh air from all the problem sets and python crashouts.

Locking in”, Saturday evening

Aside from work (and procrastinating work), I’m reading a book titled The Disordered Cosmos which our guest speaker from earlier this week recommended to me!

I also like coding, though these recent python assignments have made me question my love for it. I’m really excited for the next few weeks!
