College of Wooster Biochemistry Day 14: I slept in until like 11:30 am. It’s Sunday. Welcome to one of my most unproductive fun days at SSP!
For any fans out there that don’t know, Sundays are the only day in the whole
week that are completely unscheduled. And sneak peak, we had a birthday
today! Happy birthday Alaina!
My roommate (Tim) and I both stayed up a “little” late the night prior and I was knocked out until around 10:00 am. Tim then left to get some work done at the science building but I needed some sleep. I eventually got out of bed and got ready to eat lunch. The next couple hours were mostly boring, I played some hacky sack with the bacterial genomics kids, chess with Jake & Ethan, and even some horrible karaoke. At around 2:30 both the biochemistry and bacterial genomics cohorts got ready to leave the dorms to watch Minions & Monsters. The movie theater was 30 minutes away by walk. I won’t lie, it’s been HUMID in Ohio lately so I was more than happy to hear that the Site Director was shuttling me and a couple other students there first. It was an early happy birthday gift apparently. Right before the movie I got an Icee that was honestly way too sweet.

The movie was much shorter than I thought it would be, but it was pretty
good. The atmosphere was great and there were quite a few silly references. After the movie we started our walk back….but it was raining. I didn’t bring an umbrella so I shared one with Marvin. It really didn’t help much as we both ended up wet. We then directly went to dinner at the dining hall.
Afterwards, we went back to the science building to talk about tomorrow’s lab. The lab seems somewhat stressful, but I think I’ll enjoy it! The faculty then
hosted a surprise birthday party for Alaina. We had some cake and everyone
started to trickle back to the dorms.

I got ready to sleep but decided to hang out in the commons for a little. I played Secret Hitler with Nosa (one of the Bacterial Genomics TAs) and might have trolled big time. We don’t talk about that. I did somewhat redeem myself later when we played Mafia. At around 11:00 pm I saw Alvin explaining parts of the lab for tomorrow and I tried to absorb as much as I could. We started to wind down for the night so I got into my room right before curfew.
That’s all from me folks, but remember, Sundays are amazing at the Summer Science Program.
