Purdue Biochemistry Day 30: A Day of LaTeXing and Talent
Rise and shine reader! My name is Sky and I will be your blogger for today! My day started out like every other day – groggily getting up and walking to the wonderful building that is CHAS to work on my final paper. Today was going to be a looooong day and I knew it.
Just outside of the North dorms, I met up with Danny who also happened to be walking to CHAS while eating his breakfast (which I skipped…).
When I got to CHAS, I immediately picked up my laptop from the lab to start working. We had a lot of work to finish so I wanted to do as much as I could and start as early as possible. My lab partner came not too long after me and we were off to the races.

After working for a few hours, lunch time finally came. I was getting pretty hungry at that point so I was relieved to be able to get some food in my stomach and put my mind off work. After receiving my lunch voucher, I decided to go with some of the boys to the Union, which is one of the few food spots open for us. At the Union, we ate at Choolah, an Indian Chipotle-esque staple for us Purdue SSPers. I was able to enjoy my bowl with naan and a drink.
Other than Choolah, some of my performative friends also got drinks from Starbucks. Take a guess at what type of drink they all got…

After lunch we headed back to CHAS. Can you guess what we did at CHAS? Even more work!!! After getting back, we had to lock in for another few hours. We were trying to format our paper on LaTeX, a software used for formatting papers to look like scientific papers. By the end of the open classroom period a few hours later, I was exhausted with LaTeX and ended up on a not so great screen…Despite wanting to fix whatever the problem was, It was dinner time so I had to go back to the dorms to change for dinner.

By that time our TAs were also wiping down the walls to make sure that our posters could be put up the next day in preparation for our poster presentation day.

For what feels like the 10th time, our reserved room at Earhart Dining Hall was taken by one of the bajillion other summer programs residing in Purdue (I guess that’s what happens when the school’s campus is that big). This meant that everyone had to find somewhere else to sit. I decided to sit next to (TA) Johnson and proceeded to eat some of my dinner before remembering to take pictures. (oops…)
After dinner, we went back to the dorms to hang out and get ready before the TALENT SHOW! Some of the boys decided to pass the time by playing “Shark Tank” which I’m not even going to question why but it was funny.
While they were doing that, I went to the basement to support (TA) Johnson’s plan of handing out posters with everyone’s signatures to our wonderful faculty.
When it was time for the Talent Show in the “Harry Potter Room”, the posters were the first “talent”. I loved seeing the surprise on the faculty’s faces as they were told to head up to the stage after initially sitting down in their seats for the show.
After giving out the posters, the Talent Show finally officially started. I enjoyed seeing all of the talent we had in our cohort (so much musical talent!) and it was definitely fun to see everyone having a good time.

After the talent show, most of the cohort went to the recreation room in the basement to unwind after a long day. For me, I played Chinese Poker with some of my friends to end this packed but fun day off.
