University of Guelph Biochemistry Day 13: Chipotle, Naps, and Hoop Dreams

Today was Sunday, so naturally, I would have slept in till noon. For better or for worse, I woke up at 7:17 when my roommate left for breakfast and scrolled on my phone until 9:30. After getting up to brush my teeth, I found myself on my last pair of clothes and went to do laundry in the basement with four other people waiting to use the washing machine. I headed to the lounge to find Annabelle making a fragrant cup of coffee with coffee beans that she brought while waiting for everyone to finish washing their clothes.

By the time I had finished drinking the coffee and putting my clothes into the dryer, our cohort was ready to go play an hour of basketball with Bacterial Genomics at the Guelph Athletics Center. The court was pretty tiny and didn’t have marks on the floor, but everyone was fired up and ready to hoop. Dennis seemed to be especially into the game (must be nice being 6’4) as he ran circles around all of us. An hour passed by rather quickly, and most of us headed back to the UC Dining Hall to get lunch. Myself and two of my friends instead went back to the dorm lounge to finish our leftover Chipotle bowl that we had bought the night before. It wasn’t that good since they had run out of pico de gallo but Chipotle is Chipotle.

Right after we cleared the bowl in less than ten minutes, I went to check on my clothes to find that they were still damp. Sophia W. was nice enough to run my clothes through another cycle while I was at basketball, but that meant my clothes did not dry after two hours of drying… Someone also took out my wet clothes and left them on top of the dryer while I was gone so they could use it, so I ended up waiting two more hours before I could dry my clothes. I took a nice long nap in the meantime while I waited. I woke up with my face in my pillow and Airpods under my stomach, but it was a much needed nap. I then walked out with a few others to go watch a middle school football game from outside the Alumni Stadium only to get chased away for watching from outside. We tried to watch the game by standing on the tables next to the stadium but it wasn’t that interesting anyway. Foosball was much more entertaining, so we went back to the dining hall to get a few matches in.

Dinner was right after and the same as usual, and then we had Open Classroom afterwards. My group focused on finishing our team logo which ended up looking amazing. Shoutout to the two Sophias for making the logo great! My day ended by laying on the couch in the lounge for a few hours until curfew, and then I laid on my bed to finish writing this blog. I wanted to scroll just a little longer but I already did that for two hours in the morning and needed to wake up for Monday’s lab :/
