University of Wisconsin-River Falls Cell Biology Day 27: SSP EXPERIENCE
Taking one quick look at the sky, I could tell that we were running out of time. The red streaks and meteorites soaring across the sky, combined with the frequent earthquakes made my team feel as if no work in our lab could create a solution. Just when we were about to find a yeast modification that could stop total annihilation, I woke up- just another SSP related dream. I started my last Sunday at SSP by waking up early to play a game of pool before breakfast.
Having spent most Saturday having fun, Sunday was time to lock in. After breakfast, my team and I started phenotyping our knockout and working through online tasks. We finished in time for lunch and as I said my goodbyes I began walking with my homie Oyin. We ate with some other friends and had pretty fire burgers.

After lunch though we went back to working hard, and through blood sweat and tears I was finally able to win against Oyin in pool.
On a serious note I returned to my second home (lab) and worked with my team before and after dinner. By the conclusion of my chill day, I along with other cohorts trekked to a nearby park to watch fireworks in a delayed 4th of July celebration. Once having arrived at the park we waited for about an hour for the firework show to occur. While waiting I did a hill rolling race which left me scurrying for my glasses all throughout the grass area.

Finally our long awaited firework show started. For a small town the pyrotechnics were sick, especially since the last we were hit by a barrage of flash bangs the last couple of minutes.

Even as I show a peek into what a semi-regular Sunday looks like in SSP, it barely begins to touch the iceberg of experiences during my time here. There’s times when working in the lab feels insanely stressful and the only thing I look forward to is sleeping and probably dreaming about SSP, and there’s also days where we go see fireworks and get to have fun with friends. This very Sunday being the start of my final week at SSP makes me think about how different my new ‘norm’ will be given a couple days. Overall today, like many days, brought its own challenges and rewards where no matter the turnout I’d figure something out. Probably sleep it off and repeat. Speaking of sleep, I doubt I’ll get rid of the SSP dreams anytime soon, oh well. Until then, laters!
