bites from the big bang

Hi blog!!

Today was a litty day to say the least. It’s almost been a week since we arrived—and it was our first weekend day!

We started the day off with breakfast. Actually… here’s a pic of our breakfast crew today:

As you can tell, very few people showed up, as it was our first day of breakfast being optional! Most of us cherish the extra hour of sleep we can get by not going to breakfast… something we all desperately need.

Then, we attended lecture. As always math was super sigma… (ifykyk). Dr. M is a fire prof and it is one of the few lectures I don’t catch a SOUL sleeping (again, ifykyk). After we all finally actually understood rotational matrices, we were finished 15 minutes early! Yay!!!!!!!

Then, we had a break. But really, a break in SSP, means more time to work on PSETs. We stayed in the classroom working through the PSETs until it was time to meet in the lounge for a very special upcoming time period. I will say, being more awake is far more productive for solving PSETs (working through the AMs is NOT the move…)

And finally, yay! It was time for us to be allowed to travel past the regular campus perimeters. This was a monumental moment.

We all walked to a Korean BBQ place. And omg this was literally magical. It was the first real meal I’ve had since I arrived (which yes, I know this is my fault, I’m very picky).

As you can see, we all took advantage of this opportunity by ordering LOTS of food. It was all so delish. I tried a korean corn dog for the first time and it was so yum!!!!! Yaysies!

Ok, after we all pigged out, we walked to get boba! I’ve been craving boba for so long, so again the moment i sipped my sweet matcha boba, I truly felt like a Soaring Sigma Star (shout out group!).

There was also a rly cute shop there!

Then, it was time to return back to campus for dinnertime. During dinner, Trafim started a ruckus by asking his table how they peel a banana. This debate spread across our entire dinner room, as we all discussed the “proper” way to peel a banana. Of course, the answer is opening it from the stem, and anyone who does it differently is simply trying to be special and quirky. Oh and also Chris and Luke tried to get ice cream and the machine splattered ice cream all over them. Their business casual attire was unfortunately covered with runny ice cream now 🙁

After dinner, we played a quick game of pool (as we do very often) and went back to the classroom to continue PSETs! Tonight was a stressful PSET work period because PSET #2 was due! Everyone was on lock-in mode. And then, we were told the PSET was now due at 10:35! This had us all stresssedddddddddd. But not to worry, the higher ups took this back after they heard our cries!

Overall, today was a really fun day because it was a break from the regular everyday schedule. I can’t wait for more days like these!! 🙂

My name is Karina Krishnan and I am from Cleveland, Ohio. Make sure to check out the vlog I will post on youtube (hopefully sometime soon after the end of the program). There, u will see the real, raw, experiences of SSP & hopefully be entertained 🙂
