Colby Astro Blog – Day 22
Since certain people consider 12 AM to be the start of the day, I will narrate the story of my day starting late yesterday night. Obviously, I am not one of those people who sleep that early 🙂
After a relaxing Sunday afternoon and some lock-in work sessions at night, a couple of us decided to do some late night activities, whether it be getting a haircut, dying hair, eating ramen, or getting their nails done. Here are some of the results. SSP was the first time I learned to do nails and I’m pleased to say that I had five nail clients last night- and am getting pretty good at this.

Groggily waking up at 8am to Bruno Mars’s The Lazy Song, I ate a relatively decent burrito with bacon and eggs for breakfast. I was expecting 3 hours of Gaussian method lecturing, so it was a nice surprise when we mainly did breakout groups and mapped out the Gaussian process. Our team finished relatively fast and started doing major doodling on the chalkboard. Here’s our progression.

Afterward, we had a fire alarm test around 11am (giving me bad memories of my AP test) and so we chilled outside until lunch.
After lunch we learned about star formation by Dr. Le and did more breakout room work:

Before dinner, I practiced viola outside (was so rusty after not touching it for three weeks, my private lesson teacher is going to kill me). This was for the talent show on Saturday, and I’m also doing a couple of stuff… so expect a lot for the blog then 🙂
I was famished for dinner- and it was wonderful, with taco bowls and death by chocolate ice cream. I’m a total foody- it is my energy and happiness when I don’t get enough sleep 🙂

I was relatively locked in after dinner. One of my friends Max ordered a bright pink Hello Kitty blanket because it would look “performative.” Performative or not, it was really soft, and I took a five power min nap in it in order to recharge my brain for cooked python coding and long derivations.

I’m sitting outside now, enjoying the cool night wind and the clear, twinkling stars (and maybe some late night activity).

Hi! I’m Pauline, and I’m a high school junior from the northernmost state in the US, wearing t-shirts at -50 degrees, being chased by moose, shooting smallbore rifles, dipnetting, and watching auroras at night. Ever since freshman year, I’ve been interested in aerospace engineering, working on three projects on spacecraft landing and conductive plastic faraday cups and electron guns. I love birds and brownies, hanging out and playing sports with my friends, and am so grateful for this SSP experience!!
