CUB Astro Day 11
Today was our first full field trip day! We left later than usual and rode a bus to The National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR). Once we got there most of us left to hike some trails that started right behind NCAR. There was such a large variety of trails to choose from and each of them were immeasurably beautiful!!!!

I genuinely could never imagine wanting to live anywhere else, Colorado is the best. My group went on Mallory Cave trail where there were a lot of rocks to scale and scenery to gawk at. It turns out that the trail was closed for roosting bats but it was really cool anyway! On the way back, we saw a huge gopher snake slithering across the trail. We stayed out of the way but it was so cool to see! Once we got back we ate lunch on the roof near a really amazing view that reminded me of Lookout Mountain.

After lunch we went on a tour of NCAR where we got to learn about atmospheric sciences and climate change. The tour was fun and the exhibits were interesting (especially the cloud one!). We even got VIP access to an upcoming exhibit on the Sun. After our tour, we were given lectures from three solar physicists on their work regarding the Sun and other stars.
By the time we got back to campus we were all pretty exhausted and slept before dinner (some of us more than others). After dinner we spent the rest of the night working on psets and observing.
Sincerely, Tatyana

Hello! My name is Tatyana and I am from Thornton, CO. My main interests surround reading, exploring the mountains, and studying astrophysics (specifically cosmology). I love all the physics and astronomy we have been learning, Python is more of a challenge though. Some of my favorite things are: Donna Tartt’s books, Fleetwood Mac, deer, and corona borealis.
