Dynamic Day with Kinetic Assays (Purdue Biochem I Day 11 — Evan)

Hi everyone,

It’s my honor to walk you through Day 11 of the Summer Science Program for the Purdue University early session. I woke up at 7:30 and proceeded to walk to our morning lecture classes. After our morning lectures, we went to our lab building, planning on working on some kinetic assays. It was the first day to actually work with our purified proteins, so we were all excited to start our experiments.

After working on our kinetic assays, we were dismissed to lunch. Some of us took poke, some took burgers, and I ordered fried chicken. Looking back, I wonder if it was the best lunch menu choice. While heading back to the lab, we were passing by a cool hallway with a bunch of flags hung on the wall, so I took a picture to share it with you all.

Following lunch time, we resumed our kinetic assays, as we needed to repeat the trials 3 times for more accurate results. The experiment involved a lot of waiting to use the analyzing machinery, so we were able to work on our class activities and introductions to our research papers in the meantime. All in all, the assays were successful, and we retrieved our desired data. After all the academic work, I was excited to go to dinner at the Earhart Hall. After such an lab-intense day, it was good to engage in non-scientific conversations finally.

After a nice dinner, I unfortunately wasn’t able to join my friends in any activities as I had broken my glasses the day before, so this concludes Day 11 of SSP biochemistry at Purdue University early session.

Evan is a rising senior. In his free time, he enjoys reading books or playing his cello.
