Purdue Biochem II Day 13 – Shiv
Hey guys, it’s Shiv from Kansas City, Missouri. Today’s a relatively exciting Saturday because we get to GO TO THE MOVIES! But, that’s at the end of the day, so let’s start from the beginning.
We got an extra hour of sleep (hooray!) because the first lecture of the day was delayed. Only a few people showed up for breakfast today (Earhart also closed early for breakfast).

We headed down to Lawson for our two lectures of the day: one on phosphorylation and the other on being a good student.

Of course, it couldn’t be a great lecture without some humor. Witness the system below, which combines to coincidentally make “FEAR MEN.”

After the lecture on phosphorylation, we got donuts because Mr. Shorey and Dr. Chen got them for the students who couldn’t eat breakfast at Earhart. After that, we had our lecture on being a good student (which hopefully most of us are and will continue to be), and headed down to CHAS to get some work done. Arham and River were locking in on the MOE PSET.

Brief intermission: around this time, I finished my origami of the day. About a week into starting SSP, I made the goal of trying to finish one piece of origami a day. Today’s origami of the day is an icosahedral shape:

Yesterday’s origami of the day was a paper tessellation:

Anyways, after getting some work done, many of us went down to Ford Dining Hall to have lunch. Since it was our first time, it was fun to try out the new food (which is considerably better than Earhart’s). The pizza and minestrone soup were also AMAZING.

After finishing lunch, some of us headed back to CHAS to finish up more work, while others went back to the dorms to rest up or finish laundry. Here’s a pic of us in the CHAS elevator (Sorry, Kenisha. You weren’t in frame).

Afterwards, we went to early dinner at Earhart and went to the movies to see Superman, F1, or Jurassic World: Rebirth. Here’s the very exciting party room at the movie theater.

Here’s a trivia question before the F1 movie: can you answer it?

Here’s the group of eight who went to see F1:

The movie theater popcorn was nostalgic, and the movie was overall great (although it was a bit dramatized). Here’s the comparably massive group who went to see Jurassic World: Rebirth (and later said it was mediocre):

Anyways, that’s what our semi-eventful Saturday looked like. Along the way, I got to mingle with different groups and understand this community better. Tomorrow, we’ll have more activities to spend time with each other and come to grow as a community. Stay tuned for the next blog!
