Purdue Biochem II Day 3 – Annie

Hey fam, I’m Annie. Welcome to Day 3 of Purdue Biochem II!

This morning, I did the impossible: I woke up at 6:30 a.m. Yes, a.m.!! Pretty sure that’s a new personal record. I finally gathered up the motivation to follow through on my goal of going on an early morning run. After sweating it out, we fast-walked to Earhart for breakfast.

Amelia Earhart and her banana!!

After breakfast, we said goodbye to Amelia Earhart and her banana and walked over to the lab to check on our overnight incubated E. Coli. And guess what?? We got cells!! 😍

Then it was time for lecture. We were introduced to SnapGene, which was cool once we got past the pain of actually installing it. After a solid hour of tech frustration, we finally got it working.

Lunch adventure time! Brianna, Angelina, and I tried to find poke at Memorial Union Hall… but Google Maps led us in a full-on wild goose chase. After 20 minutes of walking in circles, we gave up and settled for Au Bon Pain. 🥲 The smoothies were worth it though!

After lunch, we headed back to the lab, only to find out our cells weren’t dense enough yet. Luckily, after a bit of patience, we finally got enough cells to move forward!

After lab, we had a quick writing workshop, and then went on a much-needed Target run to restock on snacks and a bunch of goods. Obviously, we couldn’t leave without making a boba stop on the way back. It was the perfect little reset after a long day.

To burn off our calories from boba we then went to play basketball with some people from the Biochem 1 cohort. We had a blast even though we got completely destroyed by them 🤣

I can’t believe it’s only Day 3 of SSP. I’ve already made so many great memories, met amazing people, and eaten way too much good food. Can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
