SWOSU Day 29: Yay, Sunday!
First and last hello on this blog from me, Sophia!
I can’t believe that it’s already the start of our last week here at SSP. Lots of mixed feelings 🙁
My day started off bright and early at 8 AM. I was determined to not let my nice Sunday go to waste, so I began by doing my laundry. More pairs of wearable socks, yay!!
As we near the beginning of the last week, there is a lot to finish up, including our papers, posters, and many p-sets, so after laundry and tidying up my room, I decided to finish working up our cyclic voltammetry data in Excel for my group’s paper. By then, I was feeling pretty hungry, so I went down to our Sunday brunch at the CPP at 11 AM. We had some lovely eggs cooked by the one and only TA Catey!

After resting (sleeping) a “little bit”, I worked a bit on my paper with my team members Reya and Gavin and some other friends (Julia and Wendy) in the CPP until dinnertime.

Meanwhile, another group of people went out with TA Rena to New Creation (a cafe nearby) and got some nice refreshers!! (Plus, Ryan got another haircut!)

For dinner at the CPP, we had food from Osaki! It was a catered style hibachi with fried rice and various protein/veggie options (and chopsticks finally!!!!). Catey put too much soy sauce in her fried rice and offered it to me, which I mixed with some more rice to make it less salty and devoured it. Not a single grain of rice was left on that plate. Avneesh, Wendy, and TA Amogh were in my dinner table group and we had some fun conversations. Then, we were introduced to Dr. Shawna Ellis (aka Dr. Shellis), Dr. (Tr)ellis’s wife and SWOSU professor, who came this week to help us out with our efficacy testing of our tetraazamacrocycles. After a few more extra plates and Fourth of July themed cookies and pretzels, I returned back to the dorms.

Osaki’s! (I wonder what Amogh is doing..? 🤨)
At night, Andy, Joy, Reya, Rezaan, Avneesh, and I practiced a bit for the talent show on Thursday (oops… forgot to take pictures). We will definitely need more practice, but we started getting the hang of it!
This Sunday was relatively chill and quiet, consisting of lots of catching up and finishing papers.
I am super looking forward to next week’s efficacy testing of our metal complexations. My team decided to focus on developing the metal complexations for antifungal properties, so I am excited to test out our compounds on the fungi!
I think this concludes my blog, so goodbye from your fun guy! (get it, fungi? sorry it’s bad, i know… i had to give it a shot yk…)

Sophia
Hi! I’m Sophia, and I’m from Portland, Oregon. I love to eat, hang out with my friends, eat, play with my dog, and eat. In my free time, I’ve started practicing guitar on my own, which is super duper fun!
