SWOSU Day 33: sspgt (ssp got talent!!)
third to last full day of ssp synth chem!
5 weeks of ssp is almost over, which is sooooo insane to think about. now, it’s time to lock in on our papers and posters!!!

i woke up bright and early, got dressed, and headed over to the CPP by 7:00 to work on my paper. i was soon joined by avneesh, wendy, julia, and sophia (in spirit).

8:00 am-12:00 pm
in lab today, my group was working on antifungal efficacy testing. we examined the zones of inhibition using a microscope!

for lunch, wynter, allyson, andy, rezaan, and i went to the grill. i got what i always get: a chicken bacon guacamole sandwich. super yummy 😋😋!

after lunch, andy, rezaan, and i went went to the beanery to get our daily dose of caffeine (i got a large matcha latte with extra matcha) and then went to the dorm to get changed for our guest speaker later in the day.

next, we had inorganic and organic lectures. since the program is almost over, instead of doing notes in organic like normal, we got some much-needed time to work on our posters and papers before we headed over to the guest speaker.

dr. inder sharma gave a very intriguing talk about his research and the drug discovery process. i found it super interesting and loved learning about the pharmaceutical industry and his personal experience.

we went over to eat dinner at duke’s diner. this week, my dinner group was sophia, andy, and ta catey! tonight’s menu was burritos, chilli, and leftover chicken enchilada. not the best, but not the worst.

TALANTE SHOW 🤩🤩!!!
we had so many amazing and hilarious acts from our super talented participants!

first, danny showed us how to color-grade a photo of a very cute dog, which i’ve actually never done before!
the second act was the schuyler sisters, performed amazingly by WAK (wynter, allyson, and kevin) and ta catey.
jonathan a was third, and his act was spinning a pen. super cool!
fourth was gavin and ta rena playing a bach violin duet. it sounded sooo amazing
the fifth act was felix and angel being trilingual and speaking in mandarin and spanish!
next, sughan and ethan sang along and played coconuts to you’re welcome from moana, my favorite disney movie. this was actually hilarious!
rezaan and vincent drew and guessed countries for the seventh act, which was super impressive especially to me because i’m really bad at geography.
eighth, aeka rapped about fried chicken which was really funny and really good but lowkey made me hungry
ninth was ryan, who juggled (and then dropped and cleaned up) round bottom flasks
The tenth act was gavin and avneesh playing hungarian dance on the violin and piano which was also super impressive
james was the eleventh act and he gave a presentation all about his favorite video game siege, which i actually never heard about before so this was super informative!
twelfth was ta amogh who rapped in hindi which most of the crowd didn’t understand but all of us loved
next julia and wendy jump roped to lady gaga which was super impressive!!
the fourteenth act was hannah, who twirled a baton (actually a broken pool stick). very very cool!
and last but definitely not least…
the group/orchestra of andy (piano), rezaan (cello), avneesh (viola), ta amogh (singing), reya (singing), sophia (guitar), and me (piano) performed a super amazing jaw-dropping rendition of viva la vida! ngl we lowkey ate (jk)
special shoutout to our mcs, jdub and haris!
i was super impressed by everyone’s amazing talents and this was definitely one of the highlights of this program imo!!

We went back to the cpp after the talent show to continue working on our papers and posters, which are due tmrw

hi i’m joy! i’m a rising senior from new york, and im super excited to be at ssp! outside of chem, i enjoy playing the piano, running, listening to music, and sleeping.
